A single-tracked motor vehicle that is two wheeled is called a motorcycle. There are three categories of motorcycles. There are street, off-road and dual purpose motorcycles. Mopeds, scooters, sport bikes and cruisers come under the class of street bikes. The off-road motorcycles are explicitly manufactured for racing. These are lawfully not meant for transportation. The dual purpose motorcycles are used both for transportation and racing. Scooters have been undergoing modifications and newer models launched in the market. There are again different categories of scooters, these are electric scooters, the gas scooters, motorized scooters, mobility scooters and kick scooters.

Gas scooters are the most common of them. This has a long history since its initial popularity in Italy and Japan. Its popularity now has expanded to many countries of Asia, Europe and the United States. Their engines are powerful ranging from 50 cc to 250 cc. They can be used for long distance travel also. They offer a better mileage because of its relative light weight. There are very many brands and models in the market. The electric scooters are just as the gas scooters with three major differences. The first is that the energy source for its motor is the battery. This replaces the polluting and costly petroleum. The second major difference is its speed. It has a slower speed. The third difference is that it is capable of only short distance travel before the battery is recharged. The mobility scooters are just as the gas and electric scooters except that these are meant for the handicapped and the elderly. They are designed for low speed of 5 to 10mph. The motorized scooters have smaller engine of 50cc or less or a smaller electric motor. They are known as mopeds, seated scooters, standup gas or electric scooters or segways. It gives a speed of 8 to 20mph with a traveling range of 5 to 20 miles before a charge-up or fill-up is made. They give a better mileage than the gas scooters and are extremely popular with the young people.

Another category of scooters, the kick scooter, has been added by the scooter to its range of scooters. They do not have a motor or an engine. Their move with the push and glide movement with the aid of the leg of the rider. One such kick scooter in the market is Razor Scooters. These are typically used in traveling that is otherwise covered by walking.

The kick scooter has become extremely popular amongst school kids. They gold them up and carry them in their school bags. They are useful when you need to travel a short distance. They also don’t pollute.
