Midwifery is one of the most misundertood professions in the world. Sure they aren’t as common as they used to be but there are still some around.  If you don’t know a midwife is one who assists a woman during delivery. The practice is usually questioned by a lot of people about its safety because these midwives are usually not nurses or doctors.  Mostly because the midwife we are talking about are the ones who perform home births. In this article we are going to look at some things to determine if midwifery is safe to undergo or not.

First of all midwives usually help woman who want to try and deliver naturally without any drugs.  At least that is my experience running a San Diego midwife service. And the birthing are done usually at the house of the mother. So that right there makes people wonder if it is really safe.  But really it is because most people think the only safe way to have a baby is with drugs and medicine. But that would not be the case all the time.

In fact what most people don’t realize is that the drugs they take actually slow down the pregnancy and can cause complications. When a midwife does a home birth naturally at home without using drugs it actually speeds up delivery and also recovery from the delivery.  That has been the case so many times in my midwives San Diego service. Most mothers who went natural experienced faster recovery.

But natural homebirths are usually only recommended for women who are healthy enough to undergo it.Meaning that if the woman has medical problems before which can endanger the pregnancy or if the pregnancy of the woman is high risk then I will recommend them a hospital delivery.  Generally the women I do assist in my San Diego licensed midwife practice are women who have had no history of complications.  The moment I realize there is a danger to their delivery I recommend a hospital.

Hopefully people would realize that there are many precautions before a mother can be allowed to undergo home birthing assissted by midwives.  So when a homebirth is done it turns out wonderful for the family.

Is home birthing a good method to deliver a baby

One way of giving birth to a baby is by hiring a midwife. They may not be a nurse or a doctor but a midwife is also a licensed professional. They usually assist in the delivery of babies the natural way.And this natural way is also done mostly at the houses of the mothers. This would be the reason why a lot of people question its safety. We would be talking about the safety issues of this delivery method in this article.

First of all as a San Diego midwife this allows me to answer these questions with knowledge.  The main thing people are concerned about is safety.Well you might be surprised but midwives are also trained to handle emergencies during the delivery of the babies.  Generally the things that may occur during delivery a midwife is equipped to handle.

Next they worry about the fact the delivery is done at home. What they are concerned about is that they think there aren’t enough medical equipments on hand should anyhting happen and there aren’t any doctors that will attend to the patient.  But in general in my midwives San Diego service I only take women who are healthy. What I meant was that if the pregnancy is high risk then I would tell them to deliver the baby in the hospital.Or if they had some issues regarding the delivery of babies before then I would also recommend them to go to the hospital.

A midwife does have the training and possess necesssary medical equipments for emergencies. But since the delivery is done naturally then there would be less complications. That is the general experience of my San Diego licensed midwife service. Usually the complications in a hospital are due to the drugs they use.And doing it the natural way would lessen these complications.

So hopefully you see that a midwife and a home birth are safe alternatives to delivering a baby.So if you want to go natural you must research more about it.  You will be gladly surprised with all the good information you will find. You will realize that this method is safer than you think.

Midwifery in the 21st century

Having a midwife is one way of delivering a baby.Although it is not a popular choice among mothers it is already gaining a following. The reason why it is not as popular is maybe because a lot of people think it is not safe. This means that not a lot of technology used on pregnant mothers are used in this method. And with not a lot of technology people associate it with being not advanced or safe. That is why in this article we would be looking at the technological advances that midwifery made to cope up with modern times.

Well as a midwife in San Diego I know first hand that midwives are starting to use more technology.Although the main goal of midwifery is to use more natural ways in delivering a baby.  You still can use some modern technologies. An ultrasound is one technology that midwives also use.  So finding the sex of the baby can be done with a midwife.

Another advancement that is being done in my midwives San Diego service is that we do have emergency equipment at birth.Things that will resuscitate a living thing. And other emergency equipments that may be needed during the delivery.  These different advanced pieces of technology allow the homebirth to be more safe.

Another advance being done with my San Diego waterbirth service is the waterbirth kits being used.Waterbirth is a method of giving birth to a baby by putting the mother in a tub of water. The kits help in making the delivery easier.  They also are in place to help the mother as well as the baby stay safe.

As you can see the practice of midwifery is more advanced then people think. The method is just more natural as compared to hospital delivery but the practice has advanced also. This means that midwifery is a more safer practice now to deliver babies. The emergency tools make it as safe as delivering a baby in the hospital. So if you plan on undergoing a homebirth do not think that it is not safe.

Role of midwives in a pregnancy

One of the methods of delivering a baby is using a midwife. This method is usually done at your own homes. And also, this method is usually done naturally.Natural in the sense that no drugs is used during the delivery of the baby.A lot of mothers are now choosing it because they can get a lot of benefits from it.  Some of the benefits include no drugs and a more relaxed environment at home.So let us discuss some of the roles that a midwife plays during a baby delivery.

So first of all let’s define what a midwife is.  A midwife is a person who assists women during delivery. They are not usually doctors.  But as a San Diego licensed midwife there is many other things that I know a midwife does.  Of course, they are not doctors but they do have many roles that help.

Most of their duties concentrate on assisting the delivery.  But they also advice and help during pregnancy. And also, they are still giving advice and some help even after the delivery of the babies.  So most women who are homebirth midwife San Diego have a huge job when it comes to pregnancy and delivery.A lot of pregnant women seek their help and advice.  Although not doctors or nurses sometimes, the women trust them for medical advice.

Of course the biggest job of the midwife is during delivery. This is more evident in a homebirth.Of course, midwives can help in the hospitals.  But when they are there for a home delivery they truly are given a large responsibility. As I mentioned earlier as a San Diego midwife although not usually a doctor or nurse they do have training medically. This training helps them for any emergencies.

So those are some of the roles of a midwife.  As you can see they have a lot of responsibility. But a lot of midwives have done a great job. They have been helping a lot of pregnant mothers since time immemorial. And they will continue to do so as midwifery becomes more popular to mothers in the years to come.

Waterbirth for delivering your child

One of the options on having babies that women have but is not that popular is waterbirthing. That is where during delivery a woman is placed in a bath or tub.  From there she delivers the baby. There are many benefits to this method. And even if it is not that popular more and more women are now undergoing this method.  In this article we are going to examine the benefits of it.

First of all having a baby in water is very beneficial to the woman and the baby. As a San Diego licensed midwife I have seen it firsthand. The benefits for the mother is that it will soothe the labor pains. And it also relaxes the muscles. This will result to a quicker delivery of the baby ad less pain for the mother.

And since it soothes the muscles and eases the pain of the mother during delivery, another benefit mothers and babies would get from this is that no drugs will be used to relieve pain.Waterbirthing lets mothers have their babies naturally most of the time. I have seen it a lot of times while having a San Diego waterbirth.Women who usually use pain-relieving drugs while giving birth do not have to when undergoing this method.  The water and soothing aspect allows them to withstand the pain. This is good for women who really don’t want any drugs during delivery. This is because they have the fear that drugs used during the delivery will be harmful to the baby’s health.

And the benefits for the baby are as follows. The baby lived in water in his/her mother’s womb for nine months.  By having the baby deliver into water reduces the shock they have.  The baby experiences less stress by going into water. It is stressful enough for the baby to undergo a delivery.Reducing that shock a little bit will go a long way.  And these waterbirths can be performed by most San Diego midwives. They have the know how in this type of delivery. And as shown it brings a lot of benefits for the mother and the baby as well.

Can midwives really help pregnancies

A lot of important choices need to be made if a woman is pregnant. She needs to go choose a doctor that suits her needs and wants.  More than likely they need to choose a hospital.  And there a few other things.  What most women don’t realize they can also choose a natural delivery. That is the method where drugs are not administered during delivery. As a lot more people become health-conscious this method is gaining popularity.A profession that really helps in this area is called midwifery.

What is really the use of midwifery? It is defined as the practice of assisting women to give birth naturally. Of course there are bigger definitions. But this one makes it pretty simple.  As a San Diego licensed midwife that is the job which is to help a woman attempt to deliver naturally. There can be a lot of benefits from this. The main benefit, of course, is the use of no drugs at all during the delivery. And the delivery proceeds faster because there are no drugs administered.Because most drugs administered during the delivery actually slows down the delivery.

Now not only are women attempting to deliver naturally there are some choosing the home.  They are choosing the home to deliver their baby. This different from what people are usually doing. But it has lot of benefits in store for the babies and the mothers.  As a midwives San Diego I have been able to see these benefits firsthand. The privacy of the place is one benefit a mother can get from this method.Intrusive medical procedures are less needed also because the way of giving birth is the natural way.

Of course, there will always be objections.  Some say there are safety concerns.  But if it is a low risk pregnancy this shouldn’t be a big factor. But of course it will not be recommended to a mother whose pregnancy is a high-risk one.  In my San Diego midwife practice I always advise my clients to go with the normal delivery in a hospital if it is high risk.  That way any concerns can be taken care of by a doctor.

The way midviwes are thought of

Midwifery is a profession that takes care of expectant mothers.  They provide prenatal care as well attend the birth. They also provide postpartum care as well.In general midwives are not registered nurses but if they choose to become one then they can be and can do so. But they are regulated and governed. But what are the misconceptions about them?

The misunderstanding stems from the practice of giving birth at home.  In my practice of helping women as a midwife in San Diego, homebirths are where people get confused.  People usually think delivering a baby at home is unsafe. But for low-risk pregnancy undergoing home birthing is very safe.  Midwives do have some medical equipment for emergencies.  And in general because of the method of deliveries most complications are avoided.

That is where the benefits come in.  As some homebirth midwife San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery.  This is where no medicine is involved to help in labor. No medicine is administered to the mother during birthing. But not using medication to help ease the pain of birthing is a good thing since it makes the delivery happen faster.Because most of the women do not know that medication will slow down the delivery. So by not using medicines during labor the delivery will done faster than the normal delivery.

Plus as some women perform waterbirth deliveries this adds another benefit. From doing water birth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery. The water soothes the muscles of the pregnant mother resulting to an easier delivery of the baby. Plus the shock and stress that the baby undergoes during birthing can be reduced by being released into water.

As you can see there are misunderstanding with midwives.  But hopefully you can see that for low risk pregnancies it is safe.  Plus midwives are regulated by a governing body.  So midwives do have to go to extensive schooling. They have some know-how in medical procedures that is needed in birthing.  So safety should not be of concern since they also have medical emergency equipment. This can be a viable choice for women with low-riskpregnancies.

Giving birth at home safely

How they deliver their babies is one of the choices that women can make during their pregnancy. When I say how they will deliver I am referring to a hospital delivery or a homebirth. Most women think that homebirth is not a safe method to give birth that is why they do not realize that they have a choice on how to deliver their babies. But of course there will be skeptics who don’t believe in this method.  But with careful research they can see there is a lot of evidence to show that it is.

There are definitely critics who do not believe in the safety of a homebirth.  From my observations from my practice as a midwife in San Diego I have found it to be absolutely safe. From the 300 homebirths I have assisted in the dangers are just the same as if you were to deliver in a hospital.  Having it in a hospital or at home doesn’t minimize those risks. But the risks would also not increase.

So what would be the main threat of undergoing a procedure like this? One danger that people worry about this method is when complications arise while having a baby. They think that people who assist in homebirths are not nurses.  Well as a midwives San Diego we do know medical procedures. All the necessary equipments for the common complications of a chilbirth are always with us.  Naturally any serious complications would have to be addressed by a doctor.  But that isn’t any different then in a hospital.

Women who have low risk pregnancies are the only women recommended for homebirths.A good midwife would not recommend this method if some complications are found in a woman.  This is standard procedure for all licensed midwife in San Diego. The reason as to why is because midwives have a limited medical practice and they cannot do all the things that a doctor can do.  That is why they do make sure any high risk pregnancies are delivered in a hospital.

For those who do not like this method it will be very hard to convince them to do so.But for the women who likes to try this method then they should know that this method is safe if not as safe as a delivery in the hospital.
